Isolation to Solitude, 2024
Photo Series
In Isolation to Solitude, I explore the relationship between isolation and mental health using drone photography. My experience with an anxiety disorder has often left me feeling like an outsider, struggling with discomfort in isolation. However, this project represents my journey toward finding peace in isolation.
The three photographs—a boat on a body of water, an island surrounded by ice, and a large forest packed with trees—symbolize my mental state. Each image captures the peace and beauty in solitude, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences of isolation and the room for change and healing. By presenting these images spread out on the floor, I want to immerse my audience through my personal journey, from the discomfort of being alone to the peace that comes with acceptance.
My artistic process involved conversations with mentors and fellow artists, who helped define my vision. Additionally, my research on the psychological effects of isolation and the therapeutic capabilities of photography and art showed me that landscapes can create emotional responses like reflection, and a connection to your inner self. Ultimately, Isolation to Solitude showcases both the struggles and the peace found within solitude, encouraging viewers to find comfort in their own moments of isolation.
