Enlightened Disruption explores the nature of artificial light in natural landscapes, drawing inspiration from Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. In the cave, light represents truth—beautiful yet jarring, illuminating while disrupting. My work places artificial light in untouched forests, revealing their beauty while unsettling their stillness. Inspired by Benoît Paillé’s Alternatives Landscapes, Mona Hatoum’s Homebound, and Rodney Graham’s Two Generators, I embraced their ideas of light as both an enlightening and disturbing.
Through research and experimentation, I sought to balance discomfort and intrigue, using light to create a dual narrative of revelation and disruption. While setbacks made me refine my approach, they strengthened my connection to the concept. This project reflects my growth as an artist, pushing me beyond my creative “cave” into the possibilities of art-making. The result is a dialogue between light, nature, and the human experience of confronting truth.
